Welcome to the jungle

off-topic

I decided to create this space to share my thoughts on topics I'm interested in—mainly software and finance—and to contribute my perspective and knowledge, because we all have something to offer the world.

My name is Oziel Martínez, "Rea" to my buddies. I'm a young software engineer with several years of experience in web development.

My goal is to start creating content instead of only consuming it from the brilliant minds I've learned so much from. As I mentioned, I've been in web development for almost six years now, but I've never been very active online. I think it's finally time to introduce myself to the community.

To get this blog up and running, I used a static site generator because I wanted to focus on publishing content rather than building all the infrastructure myself—a mistake I made years ago when I tried to develop my own blog from scratch. In that project, I did everything except post content 😂 (though I learned quite a bit about Laravel along the way).

A little about me

I've always been a reserved, geeky kid. For as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated by tech and how things work—largely thanks to my father, who taught me how to use a PC.

One of my favorite memories is from when I was nine years old. I discovered how to make an FTP connection with my Xbox to install games from my PC to my console, and I felt like a hacker in the process. It was a small achievement, but it meant everything to me back then since I played video games constantly. A curious thing about me: there wasn't a single game where I didn't feel like something was missing—something to improve or customize to get exactly the experience I wanted.

When I was 14, I knew what my future should be: I wanted to be a web developer. I didn't remember this until I found an old school assignment in my room where I wrote about how I'd like to be several years later. It's quite funny to me because I'm not even sure if I knew what a web developer was at that time 😂.

A year later, it was time to enroll in high school, so I chose a technical bachelor's degree in ICT with a focus on web programming. During those three years, I discovered many things—even other interests like psychology (again, my fascination with understanding the "why" of things, but this time focused on people). I even had a brief period where I changed my mind and wanted to study psychology instead 👀.

Today, I can proudly say I work doing what I love most—at least most of the time.
